Finasteride provides significant benefits in treating hair loss. Unlike topical treatments that only stimulate blood flow, finasteride addresses the root hormonal cause of hair loss. It works by inhibiting the enzyme 5-alpha reductase, which blocks the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT)—the primary hormone responsible for shrinking hair follicles. By lowering scalp DHT levels, finasteride stabilises hair loss, prevents further thinning, and allows weakened follicles to recover. Its benefits are increased significantly when paired with minoxidil.
